The dove of peace will start spreading its wings again on a downtown back alley wall starting Sept. 20. 

That’s when graffiti artists Jessey Pacho and Kedre Brown will start painting a new mural to replace one recently defaced by spray paint. The colourful painting — featuring a white dove, a Maple Leaf, the outlines of soldiers and a field of poppies — had been painted in 2010 by a community youth group to honour the last stop of the Highway of Heroes. 

The mural wall is in an alley behind the coroner’s officer, near Yonge and College Sts., and the site marks the final stop for hearses carrying the remains of fallen soldiers from Canadian Forces Base Trenton. It’s one of the last things soldiers’ families see before they enter the building.
